Sports agents are very busy people. Only some people have it in them to become the agents. Becoming an agent means that you need to constantly work under pressure and yet produce results. You have to be media savvy and know the right people to contact. Your network of media, companies, sports stars and financial advisors should be great. You should be great at understanding contract and getting financially great contract for your clients.
If you are all of them then you can truly become a certified sports agent. In many large companies like IMG, agents are required to handle the entire publicity and financial matters for their players. This means that they have to watch what the players are doing and prevent any bad publicity. They also need to monitor their financial investments and ensure that the clients are getting their fair share of revenues.
On the basis of the endorsements and off court engagements some agents can get as much as 20% of the deals. NBA agents can earn a good lot of money since the players are paid in the region of millions of dollars. Each year the statistics change as fresh new talents come in the market. With billions of dollars at stake, agents can’t afford to be complacent at any stage.
